Beginning
in 2001, CIMI, a consortium of cultural heritage institutions
and organizations, formed an initiative to study the design, use,
evaluation, and implications of handheld technology. The work
was supported by a three-year grant from Intel.
Cornell's
HCI group participated in this initative as evaluators of two
design case studies: the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM),
the Renwick Gallery's Handheld Education Project, and the Johnson
Museum's Discover China Tour for third-grade students.
